RECYCLING COPPER ALLOYS IS OUR HEART AND GENETICS

Our Mission
Supporting our industry sector reaching the European SDG goals by safeyarding Copper materials endless re-use
OECAM´s Role in Society
• very first step in recycling
• very first step in materials quality management
• indispensable partner in driving material developments
Our Road to Go
Aiming at beeing ahead of actual recycling standards, we continuously increase our knowledge using networks with experts form suppliers and customers side as well as academia and rule-setters.
Aiming at adressing political developments and demands such as the EU GREEN DEAL and related SDGs, we continuoulsy further increase our ingot-products in terms of technical and health quality criteria.
Aiming at aligning our way to go with other European industry activities, we also fully support initiatives to reduce chemical substances of concern over time. This is e. g. true for the Lead Free Brass Initiative (LFBI), published and explained by the International Wrought Copper Council (IWCC). This initiative also aims at helping to fulfil the long term sustainability and Green Deal aims of the EU comission in two main dimensions, the secure and developement of recycling capacities and amounts as well as the reduction of the use of lead as chemical element, recognized as potential health concern. The proposed underlying road map for step by step Pb reduction over time, helps saving existing and developing additional recycling loops in the metals sector without damaging essential value chains in market sectors such as automotive, electrics/electronics, machinery, drinking water supply.

Our tasks can be summarized as follows
- Representing the companies and their interests vis-à-vis other European industries and European authorities in the economic and political context in order to create equal general conditions and prevent unfair competition
- Promoting technical cooperation among members
- Producing statistics for the members in order to improve market transparency
- Cooperating with other national and/or international organisations
- Coordination of shared projects, e.g. investigations of copper alloys
The OECAM – founded 1989 in Venice – groups together a number of medium-sized primarily independent companies involved in the production of copper cast alloys, for example brass, bronze, red bronze and special alloys, as blocks, continuous casting or other formats.
